Meeting of Styles Copenhagen 2021

I am a post-graffiti writer from Sweden, working full-time as a
developer.

When did you start painting and how did you get into it?

Participating in MoS this year means a lot, because when I started out in the 80s, Danish graffiti was the first thing I saw. Happy and colorful wildstyle.

Describe your style

This might sound weird, but first I create a small problem for myself and then I try to solve it. It can be letters in patterns, pixels, shapes. So I am a concept artist. I do a lot of iterations on the same idea before I go to the wall. I try to never use the same idea more than once.

What are your inspirations?

People that really go outside the box, I get energy by that courage.

Describe a perfect painting day

I'm a planner, I never improvise. But I admire people who can do that. So a perfect day is a good plan, close friends and decent weather (hey, I'm Swedish, we don't get a lot of that).

What does graffiti/street art mean to you?

In the sketching process there is playful bending of the mind to come up with new ideas. In the painting process there is motor skills, climbing up ladders, being patient and persistent. When painting I listen to music and forget time and everything else. I don't do meditation and yoga, but this is pretty close

How do you see the rise of street art and new tendencies like big scale muralismo?

For me, in Sweden, it has been a challenge to be part of the rise of more murals. This is in part because I am a text painter: decision makers tend to be afraid of text, but they disguise it as something else. And instead they approve of paintings of nature, animals and portraits. The purpose of art is not to please everyone, or that everybody can understand it. Excluding certain forms of art is censorship.

What do you think about social media in terms of graffiti and how do you think it affects the scene?

I am torn about social media. On one hand it's pretty nice to reach a large audience, and I can find interesting art all over the world to look at. On the other hand, since I grew up without these things, there is something about exploring yourself. Just to go around and find pieces in unexpected places. That you don't paint for Instagram. That you paint for a location and the people who pass by or can find it. Also, I have a theory that if you could not see what others are doing all the time, you won't get influenced so much. This could lead to evolving your own style even more. I mean, to just to run with it, if that makes sense.

Anything you want to add?

See you in Copenhagen!
